Event Details

A talk on what the few surviving patient Case Notes, our research in to the published to date 350 stories of people buried in unmarked graves and wider research are all telling us. Before you come to the talk I encourage you to go to this part of our completely free web site https://hortoncemetery.org/the-people/horton-cemetery-stories/ and read a number of stories before you come to the talk. Please feel to prepare some questions for me. The people buried in this cemetery, most abandoned and forgotten, have living relatives among us today. Many, perhaps most of them had what we would today describe as a minor and probably transient mental health episode but were locked away for years. This is part of our nation’s history that is more or less hidden in plain sight, yet it is replicated all over the UK.

Doors open at 7.00pm. Talk starts at 7.30pm
The talk is presented by the Surbiton and District Historical Society. Further information is available by emailing Paul (paulhowardlang1011@gmail.com).  Non-members are asked to contribute £4 when they attend events.
