Help support us

Join us and support a home for the arts

The cornerHOUSE is a community venue and has no staff. To make it work, we rely on volunteers to get involved in various ways (see below).
Volunteers keep the cornerHOUSE running and enable art, drama, music and dance to thrive.

Trustee and volunteer Ian Davies has been interviewed by Henry Riley from Kingston Green Radio 87.7FM to talk a bit about what goes on at the cornerHOUSE and the role of volunteers there.

Could you be the cornerHOUSE diary coordinator ?

We urgently need a volunteer to take on this role. The diary is the backbone of everything that goes on in the arts centre. The co-ordinator is the first point of contact for all enquiries about booking for private hires and public events. The co-ordinator works closely with, and is supported by, the artistic team and the trustees to programme activities and liaise with the bookers.

The role can be run from home as most of the contact is by e-mail; the holder also attends the monthly artistic team meetings. Some knowledge of working with spreadsheets would be helpful, as the enquiry log and the diary are maintained on simple spreadsheets. The post would probably be best suited to someone who is not in full time employment.

Front-of-house

Meeting and greeting people, providing them with box office support, serving them at the bar are some of the roles volunteers fill.

Back stage and technical

For many events people are needed to be stage managers, stage-hands, lighting and sound technicians. Sometimes there are sets to be painted, seats to be set out. All sorts of roles to make sure that the staged events are seen to their best.

Maintenance and improvement

We try to do a lot of the smaller jobs ourselves to save costs, and welcome help with, e.g. painting, gardening, simple carpentry and plumbing. DIY enthusiasts and those with relevant skills and the time would be much appreciated.

Duty managers

These folk oversee events to make sure that everyone is happy and safe. A key role for volunteering.

Support for the trustees

Volunteers act as treasurer, diary coordinator and so on. We welcome offers of administrative support to spread the load.

Support and guidance is provided for newcomers to volunteering at the cornerHOUSE. It is a good opportunity to meet with like minded people, is a friendly and worthwhile activity. Where needed, we are happy to provide contributions to CVs etc. to document the scale of experience that the volunteer has had with us.

Offers to volunteer and other enquires should be made to cornerhousevolunteers@gmail.com Thank you.
