Lockdown Paintings - Exhibition by Rod Pearson

Our second exhibition for 2022 features the work of Rod Pearson.

Rod started painting in 1989 when his wife, June, gave him a box of watercolours for his birthday and he has been enjoying it as a hobby ever since.

Largely self-taught, Rod started by trying to emulate the work of artists he admired. Most influential of all has been the Australian watercolour artist Joseph Zbukvic. Shortly after Rod’s first cornerHOUSE exhibition in 2014 he attended a week’s course in Spain with Joseph where he explained his methods and technique aimed at getting the most out of the medium itself; effectively encouraging the watercolour to do as much of the work as possible. Rod has been trying to emulate it ever since.

Lockdown has afforded the time and opportunity to do a lot of paintings and those in this show are the result of that. They have been inspired very largely by the immediate neighbourhood; the river, local parks, street-scenes, and even the horses.

The exhibition runs till 24 April. Tickets for meet the artist evening on 8 March are available from Ticket Source
