Our Dad's Art Legacy
Our latest exhibition features work by Robert Hutchison presented by his children Barbara Thorn and Jocelyn Helsen.

They write;
Although from a very poor family in Glasgow our dad, Robert Hutchison, managed to enrol at Glasgow School of Art and studied there from 1937 to 1939, leaving early to join the RAF when the war started. During the war he met our mother at Kirton-in-Lindsey RAF base and, after they married in 1947, they moved to North Wales (her family home in Birkenhead having been bombed). He loved being out in the countryside, under the open skies and near water and tried to capture these in his sketches and paintings. He had little money to spend on his art and poor materials to work with but he enjoyed the process of capturing what he saw and trying out new techniques. He also loved drawing little cartoons for his family and friends and had quite a wicked sense of humour. Some of the cartoons have survived and will be shown.
The exhibition runs from 16 September to 7 October with an About the Artist night on 20 September with Barbara and Jocelyn.
