Reimagining the Domestic - Diane Gerrard and Fiona Masterton Exhibition
In this joint exhibition Diane Gerrard and Fiona Masterton focus on the ordinary domestic object and environment which gives context and shape to our everyday lives. From their shared underpinning of observations and explorations they arrive at individual visual interpretations and imaginings.
Lampshades, televisions, a neighbour’s fence, a relative sunning themselves in a garden chair, the pavement outside – the trappings of the everyday can lead to a myriad of responses ranging from childhood recollections, nostalgic awakenings and connections to people, events and time. They can provide solace, a kind of mindfulness buffering us from the harsh realities of life, or maybe they present as a suffocating shudder unearthed in the moment of its revealing.
Diane studied Fine Art and Print making at Newport School of Art and Design
and Fiona studied Painting at Wimbledon College of Arts and a MRes of Art,
Theory and Philosophy at Central Saint Martins.
Both have exhibited independently in a range of selective competitions and shows in London and across the UK including the Air Gallery, Kingston Museum, The Mall Galleries, Hastings Contemporary, the Stables Gallery.
