"Too young to be old" with Stewart Henderson and Roger McGough

An evening of poetry, stories and laughter with poets and friends Roger McGough and Stewart Henderson as they reminisce about the people and places of their lives in poetry. Roger McGough has published over 100 poetry books for adults and children. 

Called ‘the patron saint of poetry’, he was one of the Liverpool Poets, who influenced popular culture in the Sixties, performed with The Scaffold and published The Mersey Sound, one of the bestselling poetry anthologies of all time. 

Roger is the presenter of Radio 4’s Poetry Please and this year has been ambassador for the Southbank Centre’s National Poetry Library 'Poet in Every Port UK' project.

Liverpool born, poet, song lyricist and broadcaster, Stewart Henderson is to be appearing once again with his dear friend, Roger McGough. This year, one of Stewart’s poems, ‘How To Speak Love In A Storm’ featured in the several million downloads’ podcast, American based ‘Poetry Unbound’, one of the most successful poetry programmes in recent history. 

Presented by best selling Irish poet, Pádraig Ó Tuama acclaimed the poem during his 15 minute discourse on Stewart’s work.

The Sunday Times regards Stewart’s children’s poetry as ‘essential reading’, whilst as a songwriter, esteemed music magazines, Q, Mojo and Buzz place Stewart’s material alongside Randy Newman, Radiohead, and Mike Scott of The Waterboys.

Stewart’s latest collaboration with outstanding, Scottish singer-songwriter, Yvonne Lyon and distinguished BBC Radio 4 voice and apprentice iconographer, Carol Henderson, is the poetry and song cycle of requiem and reverence, ‘The Last Brightness of Everything’, which explores the dawning of the cosmos and our astral beginnings.
