Meet Tim Flower (aka Tim Burton), author

Published under the pen-name Tim Flower, lawyer-turned-writer Tim Burton, a Surbiton resident for over 50 years, has now published his second novel.

He describes Belatedly Seeking Sarah as “a poignant, uplifting and gently humorous mystery to do with identity and self-discovery, which addresses twentieth-century issues and events that continue to resonate today”.

It revolves around a 60-year-old, newly single and successful woman, who uncovers secrets and skeletons, tragedies and truths, that transform her sense of self and the third age of her life.

“If you like reading real-world fiction or watching the TV series ‘Who Do You Think You Are’,” says Tim, “this is the novel for you. The project took me on an enthralling and enlightening journey through a hundred-plus years of history and literally from the Baltic to Brooklyn.”

Tim’s first novel, Fixing Sixty Six, is a tale of political corruption, centring on the 1966 World Cup in England, which a reviewer wrote, “moves along like a Robert Harris novel” and another described as, “a crackingly convincing read”.

The 69 year-old author moved to Surbiton as a teenager in 1972. His first job was as a sales assistant at the grocers Hudson Stores in Victoria Road (until recently an Abbey National/Santander branch) where, he says, in the early days of decimalisation, he had to wean customers off what they called “real money”.

He and his wife, Frances, also have long-standing connections with the Isle of Wight, where much of the novel is set. As an infant,Tim holidayed in the Island village of Seaview, when, unbeknown to him, his future wife, Frances, was attending primary school in nearby Ryde. Due to their children being in three different countries, he and Frances currently divide their time between Surbiton, the Isle of Wight, New York and Vancouver.
