About
Commissioned and produced by Pete Townshend and created by Reg Meuross, Fire & Dust - The Woody Guthrie Story is a journey into the heart and soul of one of America’s finest folk musicians. “Reg’s terrific songs tell Woody’s life story with respect and affection, but also truth.“ Pete Townshend. At this show Reg is joined by two members of his band - The Strike - the name drawing from the energy of collective action bringing Fire & Dust to life and channelling the spirit of Guthrie’s defiant activism, creative brilliance, and unyielding hope for justice. The Strike: Welsh pianist and accordionist Geraint Watkins (Nick Lowe, Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler, Paul McCartney) and renowned string player Marion Fleetwood (TRADarrr, IOTA, The Sandy Denny Project and Fleetwood Cave). With songs and stories that highlight Guthrie’s fight against racism, inequality, and injustice, Fire & Dust draws poignant parallels between Guthrie’s time and our present day. Townshend saw this project as drawing a direct line from Woody Guthrie through Bob Dylan to Reg Meuross, and described it as “folk music at its best.”
This extraordinary performance combines Meuross’s songwriting mastery with Guthrie’s enduring legacy, creating an unforgettable evening of music, storytelling, and history.

Folk@thecornerHOUSE is a monthly series of concerts showcasing the best in folk music. The aim is to present a wide variety of performers in the wonderful intimate setting of The Corner House. There are too few venues in Surrey providing outlets for the dazzling wealth of talent available on the folk scene and this venture will hopefully go a long way towards filling that void.
