About
Poems on the Underground started life in January 1986 as an experiment by three friends, the writer Judith Chernaik and the poets Cicely Herbert and Gerard Benson.
They persuaded London Underground to post a few poems on its trains, to the delight of bemused commuters.
Join us to Celebrate 40 Years of Poems on the Underground with Sara Chernaik, Poems on the Underground Manager.
During the evening we’ll hear about the history of Poems on the Underground and how it has spread across the world and become one our favourite Public Art Projects.
Copies of the book "100 Poems on the Underground: 40th Anniversary Edition" will be available to buy on the evening.
