Artists, Antiquaries and Collectors: Illustrations of Surrey by John and Edward Hassell collected by Robert Barclay of Bury Hill, Dorking, c. 1820

Join Julian Pooley of Surrey History Centre to explore Kingston and neighbouring parishes in the Georgian period through the eyes of John Hassell and other topographical draughtmen.  His talk will place these exquisite watercolours of local buildings in the context of tensions between  antiquarian enquiry and the Romantic search for the Picturesque.
