Rural Dreams and Urban Jungles - gala night |
|
Reflections on rural and urban landscapes are told using photographs and poetry in an exhibition at the cornerHOUSE in May.
Rural Dreams and Urban Jungles is a showcase of photographic images of Dartmoor and its changing moods by Jon Constant, and of photographs and poetry about suburbia by Tanya Burley.
Burley, who has a love of history and the incongruous elements often found in an urban environment, said: "In this busy world we can sometimes walk staright past a beautiful sculpture or intriguing piece of architecture.
"My photography is an attempt to capture these unusual flashes of inspiration often hidden away in our urban environment." She has also written poetry to accompany some of the photographs.
Constant, whose parents live high on a hillside overlooking the picturesque Devonshire village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor, said Dartmoor was his spiritual home.
"Dartmoor has always been a special place for me. It is where I go when I need to escape the noise and clutter of the suburbs.
"It is a photographer's dream - from the rugged tors to the damp, mossy river valleys, and the ever-changing weather.
"I hope my photos bring a flavour of this world to suburban London."
The photographs in the exhibition, which runs from Sunday, May 2 to Saturday, May 29 are for sale.
There is a special gala night on Tuesday, May 11 from 7-9pm for people to meet the photographers and talk to them about their work. Admission is free and all are welcome. |
