The King and Me and Not in Line |
|
A double bill of plays about two controversial royals comes to the cornerHOUSE in March.
The King and Me focuses on a secret meeting between Bertie (King George VI) and his brother David, the former King Edward VIII who gave up the throne to marry Wallis Simpson, a divorcee. It's 1938 and war looms. Can the king trust a man who rejected his country for love?
Fast forward to 1976 for our next royal encounter, Not in LIne. The now long-dead Bertie's easily bored daughter Margaret parties with her circle of friends and a new young lover on the exotic Caribbean island of Mustique. What could possibly go wrong?
Writer David Gray said: "They are two contrasting and entertaining not-quite-true plays that look at the roles of the royal family's more controversial characters."
The King and Me and Not in Line will be performed by Du Buffet Theatre at the cornerHOUSE in Douglas Road, Tolworth, on Wednesday, March 10 to Saturday, March 13 at 8pm.
There is some strong language in one of the plays, so the evening is not suitable for children under the age of 12. |
