Sharing With You - Gala Evening

Wed 2 Sep 2009

Sharing is the theme of artist Fran O’Brien’s exhibition at the cornerHOUSE from Friday 28 August to Saturday 26 September.

Fran, who has been working in visual art, mixed media and photography for the past 30 years, said: “There is no point in creating if the passion isn’t shared.”

The exhibition, Sharing With You, at the arts centre in Douglas Road, Tolworth, shows a range of Fran’s styles, from her work as a photographer and visual artist, to her paintings in oil, watercolour, acrylic and pastel.

They are, she says, an expression of what she would like from the world.

“Throughout my 30 years as an artist, I have been experimenting with mixed media and photography, adjusting my work with my ever-changing disabilities,” she explained.

The New Malden-based artist likes to immerse herself into a landscape. Once she finds the view which resonates, her work is immediate and direct.

From camera to canvas, the moment she presses the shutter is the moment she shares with her audience. Little is altered, which she believes heightens the act of connection, drawing the viewer closer.

Her oil painting is also immediate and direct. These abstract pieces hope to invoke a feeling of belonging. Each piece is laid down by a different method, one upon another, representative of the many different aspects of life and of many lives lived. Her work is finished with her own hands as a final gesture, immersing herself into the many layers to feel a bonding with the environment around her.

Fran also enjoys working with mixed media and is always looking for new ways to express her joy of life.

Previous exhibitions have included the Mall Galleries, London, The Boathouse Gallery in Walton on Thames, Art4Cause in Kingston, and Open Studios in New Malden.
