The buddhas of suburbia
A gala evening is to be held at the cornerHOUSE as part of an exhibition of photography on the Far East.
The event is being hosted by Mark White and Mary Harwood whose exhibition, Buddha Images, records their numerous trips to China. All are welcome.
This is the first time the couple, who have a background in practical and commercial photography, have shown their work.
“We have visited the Far East numerous times and have always been inspired by the fusion of grace, tradition and beauty – it continuously draws us back,” said Mark.
“The fascination with the buddha image came with our trips to China; it was amazing to see the peace and calm of these ancient statues as they stand side by side with the modern world. As it spins ever faster, they retain a beauty that is timeless.
“We feel our photographs capture our happy Far East experiences,” he added.
Mark said those magical experiences have been translated into detailed decorative studies in the show.
All the exhibits are for sale, and the photographs – available framed or as stretched canvases –come in various sizes and as limited editions.
The gala evening starts at 7.30pm. Mark and Mary will be there and will be happy to talk about their work.
Buddha Images, which runs at cH until April 25, can be seen at the arts centre during any its shows.
To see some of Mark and Mary’s work visit their website www.buddhaimages.co.uk. Many of the photographs on the website are also in the exhibition.
