The closing performance of the festival will be a light-hearted and upbeat exploration of jazz classics, featuring a performance of a piece of music devised during the afternoon workshop. Come and enjoy a relaxed evening of jazz to celebrate the end of the Surbiton Salons. Led by jazz pianist Michael Horner and his band.

The Michael Horner Quartet

After meeting in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2017, the four members soon began to bond musically and perform frequently together. Performances have included Oliver’s, Milton Court Concert Hall, The Archduke and Pizza Express.

With a shared love for standards, the quartet have taken their collective influences (such as Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett amongst many others) and channelled them into The Great American Songbook, performing repertoire both old and new.

As well as performing repertoire from The Great American Songbook, the quartet perform original compositions ranging stylistically from straight–ahead swinging tunes to groove based compositions. They also work alongside other artists to fulfil their own creative goals, keeping the quartet’s work broad and diverse.
