Event Details

Kingston-born writer Sean Lang is bringing a double bill – Party Night and A Cabinet Meeting – to the cornerHOUSE in June. Sean who attended Tiffin School and who was a member of the Brycbox Youth Theatre in New Malden, has been based in Cambridge for some years, teaching and lecturing in history – a major theme in his theatrical work. His award-winning play The Road Less Travelled was premiered at the cornerHOUSE oneACTS festival in 2012, and I’m Backing Britain, about the sixties Surbiton-based campaign to boost Britain’s economy, was a success at the Edinburgh Fringe. He has written a number of best-selling history titles in the For Dummies series, including British History for Dummies and First World War for Dummies – and he does write serious history too.

PARTY NIGHT
December, 1979. Keith and Valerie have been together for 15 years and are very much in love. But he is keeping something from her. Will a chance phone call change everything? A dark new play inspired by real-life events.

A CABINET MEETING
Summer, 1988. The President suspects Education is planning something: he is, but is it a coup or just some home improvements? And what of the day’s agenda? Will they get a rebate from the plumber? Can they sort out fishing rights? And who’s going to make the coffee? A funny and poignant new play about a government in exile.

Party Night and A Cabinet Meeting will be performed on Friday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30 at 7.30pm at the arts centre in Douglas Road, Surbiton. Tickets are £10, (£8 concessions). Book at www.ticketsource.co.uk/based-on-a-true-story-theatre-company
