Discuss your favourite work of art and vote for it at the gala night for this year’s cornerHOUSE Canvas Competition.
The idea behind the exhibition which is the third event of its kind to be run at the arts centre in Douglas Road, Tolworth, is to display the creative talents of the local community.
Stella Greenslade, visual arts director of the cornerHOUSE, said: “The competition was open to everyone of all ages. Everyone started out on an equal footing with the same sized canvas, which they then have made their own.
“The idea was to cover the walls of the cornerHOUSE with beautiful and creative artwork done by local people. It also gives the cornerHOUSE Friends and supporters the opportunity to show their painting, drawing, cutting and sticking, oils, watercolours, charcoal, crayons - any medium in fact - on any subject, whether it be done seriously or just for fun.”
The canvases are displayed anonymously, and people have a chance to vote for their favourite.
“The gala night on Friday, February 12, is a sociable evening giving an opportunity for the community to view all the canvases together and to place their vote,” said Stella.
“The artist with the canvas which gets the most votes will get a small prize, as well as the one who gets the most votes in the under 17 category.”
Voting will take place during the run of the show which extends until Friday, March 26 - and there is still time to submit your work - even after the gala night. Just contact Stella at stella.greenslade@btopenworld.com. The winners will be announced after the show ends.
